Ramadan & Eid Celebrations in Michigan

During the month of Ramadan, ICNA Relief’s Muslim Family Services in Michigan, distributed hot meals to different shelter homes across metro-Detroit. About 135 people came to eat and were so grateful for the meal provided. Seeing the joy on their faces made it all worth while!

On June 20th, 2017, ICNA Relief hosted a Community Iftar dinner at IONA in Warren, MI.  This dinner was for new Muslims, refugees, and the community members. Food was served directly after Maghrib prayer to the delight of the crowd. Pizza was a hit with the children, while the adults enjoyed delicious main entrees of chicken, rice, salad, hummus, and various appetizers and desserts. It was a blessed night filled with good food, fidget spinners for the children, donated food boxes from Life USA, and even a TV raffle for the adults! MFS also distributed Zakat checks to the families in need. A special thanks to Life USA for donating and distributing 150 food boxes for the Muslim families during the month of Ramadan.

On July 8th, ICNA Relief Team collaborated with Muslim Enrichment Program (MEP) in hosting an Eid Carnival in Dearborn, MI. New Muslims, refugees, and community members were invited to help build strong relationships with each other. The event was free of cost and was open to all. The guests were served with chicken BBQ, hot dogs, rice, watermelons, chips, and cotton candy. Several different activities were in session throughout the entire event. Children were welcomed to jump in the bounce house, play games, and get face painting done. All of the guests, young and old, had the opportunity to make friends and experience new activities, allowing them to build new relationships.

Eid was also celebrated by distributing gifts and toys at Masjid Salam in Detroit. The kids were super excited to have a fun toy to play with on Eid!
