ICNA Relief Michigan: Health Fair in Ypsilanti
Health is a relationship between you and your body. Muslim Family Services, a division of ICNA Relief, understands just that. On Saturday, May 6th, MFS/ICNA Relief team hosted a free health fair for the community at Masjid Ibrahim in Ypsilanti. MFS had collaborated with local doctors and the University of Detroit Mercy to help make this event a success.
Doctors and volunteers who participated reminded the community that good health is important. The fair offered a general check-up of blood sugar and glucose levels, blood pressure, height and weight to assess the Body Mass Index (BMI). In addition, MFS had nephrologists, neurologists, internal doctors, endodontists, pediatricians, and ophthalmologists give consultations and referrals to the attendees.
The fair was held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and the patients were asked to come in fasting for accurate test results. A wide variety of breakfast items were served by our volunteers for the patients after their tests.
Approximately, 20-30 people had attended the fair from the Ypsilanti community. Most of the patients were not able to afford the services required to answer their health related concerns. Our doctors had offered advice to the patients that would help resolve their issues. They were also given referrals and follow up appointments. We would like to thank all of the doctors and volunteers who helped make this event possible.
MFS intends to host more health fairs to other low income cities of Michigan.
