ICNA President Joins Disaster Relief Team in Texas

ICNA Relief’s National Disaster Relief Team has begun gutting and mucking out flooded homes in Houston, Texas after receiving work orders from disaster relief authorities.

Local staff spent last week in helping survivors retrieve belongings and cleaning up flooded homes, in addition to volunteering at hurricane shelters.

ICNA President Javaid Siddiqui and ICNA Relief’s assistant executive director Abdulrauf Khan have also joined ICNA Relief’s Harvey relief efforts over the weekend. Br. Javaid and Br. Abdulrauf are assisting in cleanup, in-kind donation distribution and mass feeding project on the ground.

ICNA Relief is collaborating with the Islamic Society of Greater Houston to set up temporary shelters and assist hurricane evacuees. On Monday Sept. 4, ICNA Relief and  Zaytuna College volunteers teamed up to distribute food packages to hurricane survivors at a ISGH-affiliated mosque.

Though it was Eid al-Adha, ICNA Relief volunteers still came out to work with the National Guard at NRG Stadium to serve guests affected by Hurricane Harvey. They helped move crates of water for people, sorted clothes for children, and organized toys in the play area.

Stay tuned for more updates from the ground!
