Bringing Aid to Tennessee Fire Survivors

Monday afternoon wildfires broke out in Sevier County, Tennessee. The dry and very windy conditions quickly caused the situation to deteriorate, and by Tuesday night there was a disaster situation. Mandatory evacuations were ordered by authorities in the city of Gatlinburg, TN and some of the surrounding area. There have been three known fatalities so far, 14 people injured, and over 100 structures damaged or destroyed.

ICNA Relief partnered with Masjid An-Noor, the closest masjid to the affected area, and the An-Noor Academy of Knoxville, TN to provide water, Gatorade, protein snacks and personal hygiene items for over 1200 people in two Red Cross shelters. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this disaster. The local Muslim community’s response was immediate when the call was made and the efforts of Br. Yasin Terou, a local restaurant owner, Sr. Christina Lell and Sr. Ghada Ayesh were a great asset. Thanks to them and to all the volunteers who came out to help. As always ICNA Relief is able to accomplish this work only by the mercy and help of Allah (SWT) and then the help and support of our brothers and sisters.
