Salina Imam | Director of Programs in Arizona and Executive Director to AZ Shifa Clinic

Salina Imam is the Director of Programs in Arizona for ICNA Relief USA Programs, and in January of 2020 she will also serve as the Executive Director to AZ Shifa Clinic.  She is a dedicated and hard working person who cares deeply about the cause of ICNA Relief USA Programs. A little over a year ago she started seeing the dire need in the community for a facility which would provide comprehensive medical care free of charge for uninsured and indigent individuals.  She has dedicated herself to this cause and the dream to opening the doors to such an entity has come true.

Mrs. Imam is successfully taking forward the ICNA Relief programs in Arizona with grace and confidence, along with the help of numerous volunteers.  These programs include a women’s transition home, free health fairs, a food pantry, hunger prevention, and feed the homeless.

Nina Jelani LPN | Office Manager and Risk Management Coordinator

Nina Jelani is a wife and a passionate mother of three beautiful children.  She always knew her other passion was in healthcare, but not knowing exactly in which field.  In college she decided to go into nursing, as this would be the best way to get to know her patients and their healthcare needs.  After getting her nurses license in May of 2017, Mrs. Jelani decided to take her studies forward and has set a goal to become a Nurse Practitioner, Almighty willing.   Currently nursing is the pathway to achieving that goal.

Mrs. Jelani has dedicated her time and volunteered her to ICNA Relief USA Programs in Arizona and has become committed to their cause.

AZ Shifa Clinic is a place where patients are treated with respect, dignity, and compassion. Our collaboration enables a strong and trusting relationship with providers and staff.  It’s not a final destination, but instead, it is a model for achieving primary care excellence so that care is received in the right place, at the right time, and in the manner that best suits a patient’s needs.

Patient Centered: A partnership among practitioners, patients, and their families ensures that decisions respect patients’ wants, needs, and preferences, and that patients have the education and support they need to make decisions and participate in their own care. Patients are given the opportunity to choose and follow provider of choice.

Comprehensive: The care team provides comprehensive care, including acute care, chronic care, and preventive services.

Integrated and coordinated care: AZ Shifa Clinic takes steps to ensure that patients receive the care and services they need, in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.

Focus on quality and safety: Shifa Clinic use the quality improvement process and evidence-based medicine to continually improve patient outcomes.

Access: AZ Shifa Clinic is committed to enhancing patients’ access to care providing access to email and having patient portal access.

Our Commitment

  • Diverse and trained volunteer support building the program and the community.
  • Collaboration with local community organizations that allow us to leverage services and maximize our impact on the community.

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind. Peace be upon you.

Thank you for your interest in AZ Shifa Clinic and for providing us with an opportunity to serve you. AZ Shifa Clinic is based on Islamic teachings of compassion and service. The word shifa means “healing” in Arabic.

Faith on its own is unstable unless translated into practice. One of the most important aspects of faith is charity and giving to others their due. This charity can be your knowledge, time, money, or your physical abilities. All of a person’s faculties are given to him as a trust from God, for the benefit of his/her own self and other creatures of our universe. It is a Muslim’s duty to not only care for his/her own needs but also the needs of others with a warm heart and without a bias or discrimination.

Our free clinic project is about connecting with humanity and serving to the best of our ability. We all know that healing is from God and God alone. We are merely an instrument of the Healer.

AZ Shifa Clinic will be starting as primary health services provider on the second Sunday of the month from 10am-2pm, but by the Will of God, we plan to extend and join hands with other faiths as well in providing more comprehensive care with extended hours and days.

May God accept our humble effort and bless the clinic and make this a source of blessing and service to you and everyone else. Ameen.

AZ Shifa Clinic is a non-profit and tax exempt clinic established by The Islamic Circle of North America Relief USA Programs (ICNA Relief USA Programs). We are a member of the FreeClinics.com Association in the State of Arizona.

Our clinic provides compassionate quality primary health care to the residents of our communities who do not have health insurance and cannot pay for such services, as well as underinsured individuals. The clinic, opening its doors on January 12, 2020, has the financial support of Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) Relief USA Programs to eliminate health barriers by offering health services without cost.

AZ Shifa Clinic is located in Tempe, AZ. Many of the services we provide cannot be obtained anywhere else in the state at no cost to the patients. Patients must meet the following criteria for free services: be between the ages of 19-64, have no health insurance or underinsured, and have an income level that falls within 250% of the federal poverty level based on the number of people in the household. Along with medical services, we have three hunger prevention programs including Child hunger prevention, Food pantry, and Homeless hot meal service.

Each year in August we also hold back to school giveaways, including backpacks and school supplies to local schools and children in need.

We feel that these projects are vital for the current needs of our community and will continue to be useful throughout their lives. Our organization is dedicated to the process of making that happen.

AZ Shifa Clinic is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of interested community members and physicians. The Board meets every 3 months.  Staff meeting is on a biweekly basis.
