AL QURAN

O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), who has created you As well as those before you; Do so that you are saved. It is He Who has made the earth A resting-place for you, And the sky a canopy, And sent down water from above With which He brought forth fruits for your sustenance. Do not, then, set up rivals to Allah When you know (the truth). (The Qura'n 2:21-22)

AL_HADITH

Narrated Sahl: The Prophet said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."

Topic: Attending Non-Muslim funeral

Assalamu alaikum Can Muslims go to the funerals of non-Muslim family and friends?

Dear brother Yes, a Muslim can go to a non-Muslim funeral, especially if the diseased is related to you. The only thing that you cannot do is to pray for him.

Topic: New converts and adoption of different names.

Question: Are people who convert to Islam  required to take an Arabic name?

Assalam Alaykum

Almost all Sahaba did not change their names when they converted to Islam. The names ‘Umar, ‘Uthman, Khalid in Jahiliyyah remained unchanged in Islam.  Name change is required only if  islamically speaking, the meaning of the original  name contains a negative  implication or connotation.  For example, a man called al-Hakam (The judge) came to the Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) and the Prophet asked him to change his name, because he cannot be al-Hakim. The Prophet said: “Allah is al-Hakim”
