AL QURAN

O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), who has created you As well as those before you; Do so that you are saved. It is He Who has made the earth A resting-place for you, And the sky a canopy, And sent down water from above With which He brought forth fruits for your sustenance. Do not, then, set up rivals to Allah When you know (the truth). (The Qura'n 2:21-22)

AL_HADITH

Narrated Sahl: The Prophet said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."

Topic: Contraception

As far as I have researched and asked questions to people of knowledge, I have found that most scholars say that it is permissible for a husband and wife, if decided jointly to use only certain methods of contraception (i.e. natural methods and barrier methods, azal), to space their children.

My question is, that is it permissible, to use contraception to delay having a baby if the couple is newly married and the wife is studying. I would like to stress that the delay is not out of the fear of poverty, as I know that this is condemned in the Qura'n. Please could you answer this question, and also give me evidence for your answer. I would also like to know who, is answering my question (which Imam or Sheikh) and from which school of thought this ruling is from. I would be very grateful if you could answer this question, as it is a big concern among many newly married women, who wish to live their lives according to Qura'n and Sunnah, and who do not wish to do things which would be sinful. For this reason I am asking for so many evidences related to the question.
Jazakallah kher.

Dear Aisha,
Assalamu Alaykum
I don't have a clear answer from the Qur'an or Sunnah for your question, but I can give an answer deducting from the Sunnah. Sahabah did practiced 'AZAL' during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad {pbuh}. The reason was not fear of poverty, thus the Prophet did not prohibit that.

Hence, we can draw analogy {qiyas} from that if the reason was not for fear of poverty, it would be permissible. A rule in the science of "Usul al-Fiqh" says "itha zaalat al-'Illa zaalat al-Ma'lool" means when the reason of prohibiting something is removed, then the prohibition is not longer applicable.

What types of contraception are allowed in Islam? Whether tubal ligation is permitted in Islam?

Assalamu Alaykum
Contraception is allowed that does not cause any harm.
