AL QURAN

O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), who has created you As well as those before you; Do so that you are saved. It is He Who has made the earth A resting-place for you, And the sky a canopy, And sent down water from above With which He brought forth fruits for your sustenance. Do not, then, set up rivals to Allah When you know (the truth). (The Qura'n 2:21-22)

AL_HADITH

Narrated Sahl: The Prophet said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."

Topic: Adoption

A'salam-o-A'laikum,
I am in a situation where I have two wonderful nieces and I know that when November comes these two girls will be placed in foster care because their mother has a pile of problems and really hasn't been a mother to her girls ever since they were born. At this time my other sister has legal custody of them but she is not willing to take them for much longer, and could care less where they end up. I would love to take my nieces in as I have in the past, but it was not a permanent placing. I can't let these two wonderful girls go through any more abuse because of their irresponsible parents. InshaAllah I would love to raise these two girls as very good Muslim girls, but my husband says that because their parents are still alive, we can't adopt them . So my question is are we able to adopt or get legal custody of my nieces if their parents are still living? Please respond ASAP. I thank you very much.

Dear sister
Assalamu Alaykum
May Allah reward you for the willing to take care of these two children. You can file in court to get the custody.

Islamically speaking you can't adopt them in the Western understanding of adoption. You can take care of them but they cannot be your heirs and you cannot be their heirs. Their parents if they are Muslims can be their heirs and they will be the heirs of their parents.
